STUDIO PORTRAITS
Portrait Photography in Cape Town
Studio portrait photography in Cape Town creates expressive, timeless images for models, actors, creatives and anyone looking for beautifully crafted portraits. In our Blouberg studio, we create a relaxed, guided environment where you can feel comfortable, explore different looks and leave with portraits that feel authentic and unmistakably you.
Portraits you’ll still love years from now.
MORE THAN JUST A PORTRAIT
Every portrait begins with a conversation, not a pose.
No two portrait sessions are the same because no two people are the same. We take the time to understand your style, your personality and the photographs you would love to create. Throughout the session, we’ll guide you gently so that your portraits feel expressive and authentic rather than stiff or overly posed.
OPTIONAL PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP
Professional makeup is available for clients who would like a polished, camera-ready finish. Applied specifically for studio lighting, it is designed to enhance your natural appearance while remaining true to your own style.

Why Emil Loves Portrait Photography
Portrait photography has always been my favourite part of being a photographer. Every person walks into the studio with something unique, and my job isn’t to change who they are—it’s to create an environment where their personality naturally comes through. The best portraits don’t happen because someone knows how to pose. They happen because they feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
CHOOSING YOUR IMAGES
After your session, you’ll receive a private online proofing gallery from which you can select the images included in your chosen experience.
From there, you can:
- Select the images included for professional editing and natural retouching.
- Purchase additional images if you would like more from your session.
- Receive your final photographs in high-resolution and web-sized formats for easy sharing and printing.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I’ve never had professional portraits taken before. Will you help me?
Yes. Most clients are not accustomed to being photographed. We guide you with clear, relaxed direction throughout the session, and we can share simple preparation and posing guidance beforehand.
Can I bring more than one outfit?
Yes. The number of outfits depends on the experience you choose. Our Signature and Premium experiences include up to two outfits. We’ll help you choose clothing that creates variety while remaining true to the style you want to achieve.
May I bring someone with me?
Yes. You are welcome to bring a friend or partner if their presence will help you feel more comfortable. We simply ask that they allow the session to remain calm and focused.
What should I wear for my portrait session?
Choose clothing that fits well and reflects the style you want to create. Neutral, timeless pieces photograph beautifully, but stronger colours or statement clothing can also work well for editorial portraits. We’ll help you coordinate your outfits and backgrounds before the session.
How long does a portrait session take?
The length of your session depends on the experience you choose, the number of outfits and backgrounds, and whether professional makeup is included. We’ll confirm the expected timing with you beforehand.
Can I do my own makeup?
Yes. You are welcome to do your own makeup. Professional makeup is optional and is available for clients who would prefer a camera-ready application designed for studio lighting.
Do men need to wear makeup for studio portraits?
No, it is not essential. A small amount of professional makeup can be useful under studio lighting to reduce shine and create an even skin tone, but it remains optional.
How many photographs will I receive?
The number of professionally edited images depends on the experience you choose. Full details are available in the studio pricing section on our Headshots & Portraits page.
Where does the session take place?
Editorial portrait sessions take place in our Blouberg studio, where we can work with controlled lighting, varied backgrounds and a relaxed pace.
