Which shoot is right for you?
Do you need a headshot, business portrait or editorial fashion photographs?
Then you would want to book a session with a professional photographer, as you want an image of the highest quality of yourself. The pricing for the different packages is different and you are sorely tempted to go with the cheapest option. But is this the best decision for you?
In this article we break down the difference between a Headshot, a Business Portrait or an Editorial Fashion Portrait. Each of these have a part to play in creating a superb image and you need to know which one is right for you.
Let’s start with
Editorial Fashion Portraits.
Why should you choose this option?
Editorial Fashion Portraits are ideal for the person who wishes to have a great portrait portfolio with images of themselves. These images may be used for modelling portfolios or may just be a very pleasing update of beautiful images of yourself to send to family or have framed for your own home. These are beauty shoots and include make-up. This could be a natural look or a sultry smokey eye (the particular style of makeup) with a beautiful evening feel. The reason for professional make-up is twofold:
You will feel beautiful and more confident in front of the camera;
Professional make-up keeps the skin from being too shiny. When professional studio lighting is used, one needs a matt finish to get the most satisfying results.
So why use a professional make-up artist when you can do your own make-up? Good question. A professional in any field has spent time studying their craft. The products used by a makeup artist are professional, which in essence means that you will not get any foundation separation, and the skin texture will remain flawless throughout the shoot. The make-up artist knows exactly how to apply the correct tones and shades to bring out your own natural beauty, as well as how to apply make-up for photography. We make use of MUA (Makeup Artist) Stella Kalymnios for our make-up. Click on her name to check out her Insta profile. She has done the makeup of some of our famous South African TV show stars, and you will be in great hands. Stella not only has a vast knowledge of make-up application, but is professional in her approach, punctual and loads of fun to work with.
We do not limit the time taken to do your shoot, and do not offer any mini shoots. Our aim is to capture you looking your best and this almost always will take a little longer than 15 minutes. We usually recommend at least an hour excluding the time taken for make-up.
Business Profile Photography Shoot
A Business Profile Photography Shoot is ideal for the person who would like to showcase what they do for a living. Some props are usually used and ordinarily provided by the client. These could for example be books, a laptop, beauty items or whatever the client feels would visually complement what they do best. Make-up would be offered in addition (recommended), but as these are not beauty images, and if the client’s skin retains a matt look, they may prefer to go without makeup. Men don’t usually feel the necessity to have makeup, although, if professionally applied, can enhance the look of masculinity.
As with Editorial Fashion photography, we recommend allowing at least an hour (excluding make-up application) for this shoot. These are the images you would use on a website, your Linkedin profile or any social media account for your business.
Headshot
A Headshot is the third type of portrait shoots we offer. A headshot is usually a single image (often the result after a few different poses) and is purposed for the introduction of the person on a company website, or any business platform where staff may need to be introduced to the viewer. These are usually quick sessions where high profile businesspeople would not be required to expend a lengthy amount of time in getting the shot done. Experience plays a big role in getting a single image captured quickly, satisfactorily and efficiently with the perfect lighting and background.
Headshots may be done at our studio or at a client’s business premises. We do have a pre-determined minimum number of images option available when shooting at your business premises. One would ordinarily choose this option when the whole staff complement will be photographed. We also offer make-up services (an additional expense) for Headshot shoots.
A single headshot can be done in under fifteen minutes, however, we do not impose a time limit. We want you to get the best, and if you need an extra five minutes to compose yourself or need to have a couple of photographs taken to get “the one” we are happy to oblige.
Why choose Emil Bosch Photography? Well, why not? You will be in the excellent hands of a professional who knows exactly how to produce the best image. I am convinced that this is exactly what you want.
