SMILE FM HEADSHOTS & PORTRAITS
We were excited when Smile FM approached us to photograph portraits and headshots of their presenters and management. After several meetings and some planning, we were all set to do the shoot at the lovely Roodebloem Studios. Smile FM had made the studio booking which included two backdrops – blue and yellow – representing their branding colours. This would be one of the biggest shoots we had done thus far, and we were ready for it.
Emil booked Profoto D1 lights from Blur Photo and, after viewing the studio space, he settled on a C-stand on wheels and his favourite parabolic 165 umbrella – this turned out to be an excellent choice as moving from one backdrop to another was done with ease. The brief was to use two pre-determined backdrops (yellow and blue) but ended up shooting on three backgrounds (enter the White backdrop!) in the end and took over 1100 photographs.
The MUA ladies from Catrice were there to ensure that all the staff were photo-ready. Their make-up was flawless, and their interaction with the Smile FM and us throughout the day was both friendly and professional.
We are always well-prepared for a photoshoot beforehand; no matter how large or intimate/small it may be. During the planning stage, we arrive with posing ideas downloaded to our iPad, so that a client may view these options with ease and be in the position to guide us in our quest to capture the ideal/desired image. In general, not every pose suits the client/person to be photographed, and not everyone is willing to try every pose. We find that each of our clients resonate with certain looks, and in turn, they tend to be far more relaxed in front of the camera when they have had some prior input.
“The photographs were exactly what we wanted”. These are the words we really want to hear after a shoot, and we are thrilled at Smile FM’s comment. Although we are contractually bound not to share the photographs, we can assure you that they are stunning. Keep a look out for them on the Smile website and newsletters.
